Red Stack

RedStack is working intensively and successfully on the development, scaling up and future commercialisation of energy generation from differences in salinity, often referred to as Salinity Gradient Power (SGP). This form of energy – often called Blue Energy – was first described in 1954 by the English researcher Pattle in the journal Nature. Of course, the principle had to be translated into actual process technology and equipment that is technically sound, resistant, and stays in one piece, and is accepted by users in terms of price. This is the source of REDstack’s mission.

Blue Energy Technology has been nominated for the prestigious “Aqua Tech” Award 2023.

The Problem: Create Blue Energy in India

There are many rivers which flow into sea in India. As river water and sea water has huge salinity difference, the possibility of constructing plants to generate electricity is plenty. Additionally, affluent India is always energy hungry.

Research

In collaboration with REDStack, Netherlands, CIT is the first institution to bring this technology to India by liaising with the Government of Karnataka. Researchers at CCCIR will tailor-make solutions to contextualise the specific requirements to India.
