CIT Recognized at Synopsys Innovation Forum 2026
Cambridge Institute of Technology (CIT), Bengaluru, achieved a significant milestone by being invited to the Synopsys Innovation Forum 2026 (SNUG 2026) to showcase its accomplishments in workforce development, innovation, and industry-oriented outcomes. Representing the institute, Dr. Cyril Prasanna Raj P received special recognition from Synopsys and GlobalFoundries for the successful completion of a semiconductor chip tapeout, marking a proud achievement for the institution.
This recognition stems from CIT’s participation in the prestigious Global Workforce Development Project, sponsored by Synopsys and GlobalFoundries. The highly selective international initiative included 55 institutions worldwide, with only six institutions from India, including Cambridge Institute of Technology. The programme provided participants with access to the complete Synopsys Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool suite on the cloud, 180nm technology libraries from GlobalFoundries, and over 60–100 hours of structured training in advanced VLSI design.
Building on this opportunity, a dedicated team of 10 faculty members and students, under the guidance of Dr. Cyril Prasanna Raj P, successfully designed a configurable baseband processor featuring an error encoder/decoder, digital up/down converter, and numerically controlled oscillator (NCO) for radar system applications. The team completed the entire RTL-to-GDSII design flow, submitted the design for fabrication, and successfully received the fabricated and tested semiconductor chip from GlobalFoundries. CIT emerged as one of only five Indian institutions to successfully complete the fabrication process and receive the manufactured chip.
The initiative has also created a lasting academic impact by training over 40 undergraduate and postgraduate students in industry-standard ASIC design methodologies. In addition, the institute developed more than 400 hours of VLSI and ASIC design training content along with six comprehensive case studies using Synopsys EDA tools. Building on this success, 25 students went on to design 25 semiconductor chips for a secure Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) platform, which have been submitted for fabrication using GF180nm technology, contributing towards India’s first secure silicon IP platform.
