The Basic Sciences subjects are pivotal for every engineering stream. These subjects taught for the students in the first semester help them in better understanding and application of the same in their respective courses. The department was started from the inception of the college. Its objective is to provide value based education to its budding engineers. The department has well qualified and dedicated faculty who are a blend of knowledge and experience. The strong foundation laid by the department helps the students to apply knowledge in a better way & become a successful engineer. The department comprises of three sub-departments namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. All these three sub – departments exist as separate divisions and maintain individual identity. R & D centers recognized by VTU are established in all the three departments. The unique strength of the department is the excellent coordination in carrying out academic responsibilities. The department has contributed to overall progress of the institution.

Department of Basic Sciences

The Department of Basic Sciences was established since the inception of the college in 2007. Since then the department is providing quality education to the first year engineering students. I am honored to serve as the Dean of the Department of Basic Sciences at our esteemed college. As an integral part of our institution, the department is committed to providing a strong foundation in the fundamental sciences to all our students.

Research centers are established in all the departments Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Several research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. in these research centers. Our department is also committed to community outreach initiatives through NSS and AICTE that promote awareness among the students about the need to help the society. The Department also conducts various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities under the aegis of department forum MYTRI.

In addition to these various National/ International conferences, FDPs, workshops, Guest lectures, Faculty orientation program are organized time and again for the faculty of Basic Sciences department. Participation in these activities will update the developments and research opportunities to the faculty.

Infrastructure

The Department has well equipped classrooms and labs. All classrooms possess projectors. Two classrooms are equipped with Smart Panels. Department of Mathematics handle Python Programming Lab which includes 30 desktops. The Physics and Chemistry Lab are well equipped with the experimental setups as per VTU curriculum. Along with VTU syllabus, the departments also conduct additional experiments thus facilitate additional learning about the subject.

Events

The Basic Sciences department aims at arranging many co-curricular events including workshops, Guest lectures for the benefit of the students. These events expose the students to various latest technological developments which are applications of the topics taught in the class. These activities inspire students towards further learning and applications.

Research

The department of Basic Sciences comprises of three research centers affiliated to VTU  in the department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics respectively.

The Research centers in the department of Chemistry Bharata Ratna Prof. C.N.R.Rao Center for Research and Development and in the department of  Mathematics Smt. Shakuntala Devi Center for Research was established in the year 2017. Under the aegis of these research centers cutting edge work is carried out by the faculty. One student is awarded Ph.D. from Research center in Mathematics till date.

Research Center in Department of Physics Roddam Narasimha Research Center for Physics was established in the year 2019, one student is awarded Ph.D. till date.
