MSME
MSME design funding has been approved to develop biodegradable active food packaging from sugarcane bagasse with biomolecules and it is an ongoing project. The main objective of the project is to make bioplastic packaging smart by incorporating active biomolecules which can extend the shelf life of the stored food. Antimicrobial, barrier and scavenging properties of the packaging will be improved by a novel pH triggered releasing mechanism of active molecules. The active molecules will be incorporated on cellulose film by interfacial assembly to prevent food spoilage. Oxygen and ethylene gases released will be captured by phenolic compounds and open structured materials in film. The product will be developed within the ten-month funding period.
