KSCST

New materials and components lab, cccir has developed bioplastics from agricultural residues supported by Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Interventions in the State: 2022-23: Project Related Grant, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST). It is an eco-friendly alternative for the synthetic plastics for food packaging which is solely derived from agricultural residues without any synthetic additions using green chemistry routes. One of the novelties of our bioplastics is that they contain no non-biodegradable or petroleum-based elements; instead, all of their ingredients are derived naturally. The bioplastics have been developed from mango seed starch and characterized for its suitability as a food packaging material. Figure shows the solution casted bioplastic films and cups made out of mango seeds. These bioplastics showed better antimicrobial, antioxidant and barrier properties and less chemical transfer.
