Teaching Learning Methods

Department adopts various teaching methods to foster engineering education to students in addition to conventional teaching methods. ICT tools are an integral part of the teaching-learning process which enhance the students’ engagement in classes. Zoom, Google Meet, Google Classroom, and other video conferencing applications enable real-time interaction between teachers, students, and even guest speakers from anywhere. ICT enabled classrooms equipped with LCD projectors and smart boards help faculty to impart the details of the course in an effective manner, and well-equipped seminar halls. Various licensed and open-source software packages are available to enhance the learning ability. Faculty also use educational websites and YouTube channels on various topics pertaining to the syllabus to empower a richer and dynamic learning experience. The students have access to resources in the digital library such as NPTEL, NDLI, VTU e-learning, e-books, and journals. The various teaching methods adopted other than chalk and talk are:

  • Experimental Learning: Lab work is fundamental in engineering education which provides hands-on experience by allowing students to apply theoretical concepts to practical experiments, solidifying their understanding of complex topics. Most of the courses have an associated lab in the curriculum spread across the semesters.
  • Experiential Learning: Fieldwork is a crucial component of engineering education that provides a hands-on experience for students. Some of the key benefits of incorporating fieldwork are real-world exposure, theory-application connection, teamwork, communication, technical proficiency, and professional development. These are included in the teaching methods through industry visits, industry-based projects, workshops/skill-based training, industry training, and internships.
  • Problem-Based Learning (PBL): Problem-based learning (PBL) is an effective method which helps students understand how their technical knowledge applies in practical situations and encourages them to think critically and develop innovative solutions. This is done in a few courses or by introducing a few additional courses in order to nurture the all-round development of students.
  • Use of Simulation Tools: Technological advancements have enabled the use of simulation tools which provide immersive learning experiences, allowing students to explore complex engineering systems in a controlled environment. Many such tools like PSIM, PSpice, MATLAB-Simulink, Scilab, Electrical CAD, and more are introduced in the courses.
  • Online Certification Courses: Students are encouraged to take up online proctored certification courses from MOOC and many other learning platforms with approval from the chairman of the department, for which direct credit transfer facilities are provided in order to encourage the students for self-paced learning and inculcate the attitude of lifelong learning.
  • Industry Partnerships: Industry collaborations are immensely impactful and beneficial for both the parties involved, where students gain practical, hands-on experience, while companies benefit from fresh perspectives and potential talent for future roles. These collaborations enhance engineering education and bridge the gap between academia and industry through internship and project programs.

“Technical education is not learning of the facts, but the training of the Mind to think”

Cambridge Institute of Technology focuses on imparting quality education to all. We provide an opportunity to all our students to develop the qualities of global professionals. An academic platform through standardized teaching learning processes assist the students towards achieving academic excellence. At Cambridge  Institute of Technology, the students are trained on emerging technologies through Industry collaborative programmes, Real time projects and Internship opportunities through Industry sponsored labs, participate in research activities in advanced research labs. A start up ecosystem is established at the Institute for students and faculty with mentoring, training and infrastructure support to inculcate the start up culture among the young minds. Students have ample opportunities to participate in sports and extra curricular activities. Technical competencies through various clubs at the Departments. Our goal is to develop our students as technocrats who can contribute  to the society and build a sustainable eco system.
